15th Annual Ontario Medical School Symposium

Update 2: The venue for the social happening right after OMSS has been decided – we’re going to the Duke of York pub just a block away. Stick around after the event and we’ll head there together, but in case you’re wondering where it is, here is a link to Google Maps.

Update 1: As usual, we will be supplying the HBSU Canadian Medical Schools Guidebook, updated every year by your very own HBSU execs. Fourteen Canadian medical schools, their various cutoffs and requirements, costs, and other information in one convenient booklet… last year many people came to OMSS just for this booklet. But we do encourage you to stay for the full event ;-)

That’s right, the time is right for HBSU’s biggest event of the year – the Ontario Medical School Symposium (OMSS). One look at our poster and you want to go, am I right or am I right?

15th Annual Ontario Medical School Symposium
Thursday, March 15th
5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
OISE Auditorium

Admissions officers from major medical schools in Ontario will be presenting, plus a Q&A panel of current medical students from U of T, McMaster, Queen’s, Western, and Ottawa to give you inside information that you can’t get from the schools’ websites. This year, the medical student panel is comprised of students who did their undergraduate studies at U of T. Learn about the application process, each school’s strengths and weaknesses, interview tips, and more from those who have once been in your shoes and made it.

Also, The Princeton Review will be raffling off many prizes, including a free MCAT course – almost a $2000 value! And as per HBSU usual, there will be free pizza.

We will also be hosting a social directly after OMSS (location still in the works but will be conveniently close by)! Stick around to meet the speakers, students, and the HBSU executives while enjoying free appetizers.

Multi-Organ Transplant Student Research Training Program

Wanna do some sort of medical-related research/training? Then read this surprisingly concise document from Toronto General Hospital opening up applications for trainees in their Multi-Organ Transplant Student Research Training Program!

Need a quick look at the app process to decide whether or not to go for it? Here’s a summary of the process.

- Elements of your app: cover letter, CV, transcript, & a 500-word essay on “Presumed consent in organ donation – what’s wrong with it?”
- Send the above electronically to motsrtp@uhn.ca by June 30th
- Wait for interview

What do you think? Sounds pretty easy. The program itself will either pay you, give you an academic credit, or nothing (good old fashioned volunteering). Again, see the document for more details =)
